Hornets Hype

Hornets 100, Spurs 75

By ticktock6 on March 13, 2008

HypeMeter: ALL TIME HIGH.

Seriously. The crowd of 16, 300 booed the Spurs every time they touched the ball from the 3rd quarter on. Every single possession. I think, and I do not like to overstate these kinds of things and give us too much credit, that the arena singlehandedly caused the Spurs to drop the ball out of bounds at least twice. I am pretty sure this actually happened, and I would love to see some TV highlights. It all started when CP went down and got kicked by Bruce Bowen (is there tape on this? oh here, go to town), then actually got called for the foul. The crowd booed. And then they just didn’t stop. The team spun a 7 point lead into 13 and never looked back.

Mo Pete: “Our fans were unbelievable tonight. I’ve never seen an entire team get booed like that since I’ve been in the NBA.” More Hornet quotes!

You know, you gotta think the Spurs weren’t expecting that. I mean, yeah, they’re pros, they’re used to hostile crowds. But when you think about it, our last two games against them have been in San Antonio. They haven’t been to New Orleans since November, when the crowd was, what, 12,000? Yeah. I doubt they were prepared for it. Not from us.

I hope we scared them the hell out of our house.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  1. Holy fucking shit! That was a wicked dirty play! You know, I remember saying to you at the game, after Bowen was called for a dirty slap in the 4th, it was only his 2nd personal. That kind of officiating only encourages his kind of play. And honestly, I don’t blame him for getting away with what he can…but kicking another player? Come on. That should be at least a one game SUSPENSION.

  2. bowens turbin has always been durty

  3. The Yelling Guy says:

Kicking, scratching, punching aside…. we split with the Spurs this season. That, in and of itself, is an accomplishment. To put it in perspective, we were 0-12 against the likes of San Antonio, Dallas, and Phoenix last season. This season we are 8-3, with one game left against Dallas. We also locked up a winning division record last night. We are 9-5, with a game each remaining against the Rockets and Mavs. So it’s not just cupcakes we’re beating and competing against this year.

  4. Those are some impressive stats, especially the division record. I think we looked this up a couple days ago, and the only one who’s close to us in terms of record against the West/playoff teams is the Lakers.

  5. That booing was awesome. My friend and I watched the game with a grin on our faces. Unbelievable.

  6. Unfortunately, this also has closed a bit lately. In conference records, the Lakers have 0.5 games on us, and the season series (SS) is 1-1. The Bees are up 2.5 on the Rockets, but they lead the SS 2-1. In conference play, we are 4.0 games on on the Spurs, crucial with the SS tied at 2 a piece. The Jazz have pulled up to 2.0 games back, but lead the season series (1-2). While its irrelevant with the Suns (b/c we’re up 4-0 head-to-head), we are up 6.5 games in western conference record. Mavs are 0.5 behind us, but we lead the SS 2-1 so far. After splitting 1-1 so far with the Warriors, we’re 4.0 games ahead in West play. We took the season series with Denver 2-1 (and are 5.0 games up on them) Nuggets and split the SS 2-2 with the Blazers, although are 6.0 games up on them in intra-conference play.
