The Hornets Watch Party is the Herald of the Apocalypse
Posted by: ticktock6 in Around Town, Playoffs 08, PromotionsFor the love of the Hornets, I beg you.
Stop having them.
No, really. It’s the playoffs. This stuff counts now. The Hornets marketing people need to take a serious look at what they might be doing to the team. As a refresher, let’s take a look at the Hornets’ record this season for Official Watch Parties:
2/23 @ San Antonio… L 89-98
3/16 @ Detroit… L 84-105
3/28 @ Boston… L 92-112
4/11 @ LA… L 104-107
4/25 @ Dallas… L 87-97
So not only do the Hornets have to contend tonight with their record of 0-14 in Dallas’ arena over the last 10 years, they also have to deal with the 0-5 Kiss of Death that is the officially sponsored watch party. Thanks a lot, guys. On Friday I seriously wanted to tackle Brittany, wrestle the mike away from her, and yell, “NO! The watch party for Sunday will NOT be here at Gordon Biersch! It is cancelled! Stay away! GO HOME PEOPLE, GO HOME!”
Now, you haters out there might be saying, “Well, Ticktock, those five games are against quality playoff teams. In fact, with the exception of Dallas, none of those teams finished lower than a #3 seed.”
Whatever. I know better. It’s the Watch Party of Doom. You’ll notice that the Hornets have beaten four out of five of those teams on other nights (the exception is the 0-for against the Pistons this year). The Hornets have even won road games against two of those teams. Shit, they only lost 15 road games this season.
So next you might be saying, “Well, if you feel that way, then don’t go.” But see, that’s the thing. It doesn’t matter if I don’t go. I’ve only gone to two. Who attends is not the issue. Also not the issue is the location of the party. The losses have taken place three times at Bruno’s, twice in Covington, and once at G.B. It’s the very existence of the party that causes the Hornets to lose.
For the sake of the series, I hope the Hornets come out firing tonight. That’s a lot of baggage, but I hope they can overcome.
We, for the record, will not be going.

Butterflies flap their wings, a west wind blows across the Pacific, and maybe a basketball changes direction and misses the rim. I say to hell with it. To hell with random connections between seemingly unconnected events that inexplicably yet inexorably change the fate of entire cities of peoples. I say fight destiny oh team of Hornets. Deny the very fabric of reality that pulls your shots from the baskets and boils over your anger translating into excessive technical fouls. Fight the pull of suddenly burdened shots that bend along the curve of the earth and miss their intended targets and instead WILL those shots to fall. Deny that black magic of the Watch Parties and the voodoo hex they place on your very souls! DENY THIS! FIGHT!! WIN!!! Deny fate and lift up an entire city. Do it for New Orleans. Do it for rebirth.
But more than anything, do it because you have the heart of champions.

Wow, that was actually really poetic, mW. You should seriously consider changing your post formats to haiku. But seriously, very good stuff.
For the record, I saw someone at the gym today hooping in a Hornets T! I was extremely excited (I’m in Texas, so you don’t see much outside of the whole Mavs-Spurs-Rockets shindig), except the guy wasn’t really productive on either end. Sadness.
I’m unreasonably superstitious regarding games, so yeah, I’m a little concerned for that statistic.

Will the entire Hornets team be there too?

I’m gonna just sit back and have confidence that it was a fluke, if the refs will cut us a break (seriously more free throws than the hornets in one quarter) then I think we’ll come away with a win tonight. I have faith in Paul, West, Chandler, Mo Pete, Peja, and the rest of Scott’s team tonight.

I hate to say I blame the refs for some of this stuff but seriously. If they are gonna call a lot of fouls for little things then they need to do it on both sides, chandler was out at what 3 minutes in to the game. IT’S THE PLAYOFFS JUST LET THEM PLAY, I saw what happened to lebron james and yes that was a hard foul but this little foul crap has got to stop.

Yeah there were clearly some moments where I thought players were hacked while shooting and not called too.

FIRST WIN IN DALLAS IN A DECADE, THIS IS FOR YOU MUGGSY!!!!! And jason kidd now officially(I hated him for the person he is) joins my “players I hate” list, no respect for someone who’d hit someone like that. Oh and kid got a flagrant 2 right, so he should be suspended a game right?

Pargo is so lucky he managed to get a hand out. That scared the crap out of me. But he managed to not only bounce back up but calm down everyone else… JuJu looked like he was about to kill someone after that play. I hope Kidd gets suspended… he grabbed him around the neck and flung his head at the floor.
SWEET, sweet win.

I guess Byron Scott wins his quiet battle with jason kidd, and we get revenge for that 34 foul game the other day.
