What does HornetsHype think? Well, I think we know I love all things David West. Some guys talk trash and don’t have anything to back it up with. Like Rafer Alston running his mouth. Was Rafer Alston at the All Star Game this year? Did Rafer Alston drop 30 on the Spurs? But D West can back up his talk with an All Star season, and he was pretty damn steady last year too. Usually when people complain about a guy being a punk, it’s because he’s, well, just a punk. And hell, I think half the time West doesn’t even talk… he just looks. Now, granted, he is a large dude who likes to be 3-6 inches from your face when he’s looking…
I loved D West getting up in Dirk’s face in Game 1 because it sent a message: “We are not gonna lie down for you. Get used to it.” That’s why I don’t mind that Bonzi Wells is a guy who’ll come in off the bench and drop a flagrant on Bruce Bowen (I’m not in denial here– he totally hit him. I’m 100% positive he did hit him. The reason no one clapped when Bowen got up is not because New Orleanians are assholes, but because he’s a big fat faker. He was so injured by Bonzi’s hit that he had to flail about on the floor for 3 minutes and then was fine 2 seconds later. Yeah.) And I certainly don’t mind if D West claps in your guy’s face, rocks his angry look, taps you, bitchslaps you, or gets real, real close, and talks real sweet and quiet while gazing into your eyes. Because we love it. And since we’re the new kid in the playoffs, we need it.

I look at the David West being a bad-ass thing as par for the course for this season. This team is just doing the unexpected, so why not expect the unexpected from this point on. Everyone (including me, and you if you’re reading this) thought that Bonzi was gonna be our “Attitude Guy” or “Designated Asshole” when we traded for him. No one expected the soft-spoken Westicles to take charge like he has. I now have a new nickname for D-West, its McDonalds, because I’m lovin’ it!!!!!
The best thing about David West, the thing that means he is not a punk is that he leaves it on the floor. The game can get intense and in the Bonzi situation I think he was letting bowen know that they weren’t going to let him get away with beating on their leader. They need to be out there showing attitude, showing that they are not going to be pushed around and that no matter how little experience they have this is our time. The league took Paul’s MVP away from him so it’s time for him to earn another kind of MVP, finals MVP.
BTW, Mikey, someone else used Westicles today in the comment thread at Dime Mag. If it’s not you, they better not be taking credit!!
Comparing him to Kenyon Martin is a joke. If Brett Edwards keeps on saying shit like that it will really look like he’s the one from Brazil that can’t watch a game. Back it up Brett, hater.
Vilmar – he also beat the same “Chris Paul made David West” dead horse that people only use when they haven’t watched enough Hornets. People who know the Hornets know that few of West’s points are dishes straight from CP, a la Tyson.

Having read about Mr Edwards and read his stuff I have come to a conclusion: HE is a punk. Someone needs to jump up and down on his pointy little head until he comes to realise that DWest is da man. Then, force a case of Abita down his throat like he’s being waterboarded with it.

He knows that the first thing the “playoff tested” teams are going to try is rattling the new kids and giving them the ol’ welcome to the playoffs bullying. He and CP and Tyson took that wind right out of the sails by being the aggressors, like the new convict that punches the biggest dude in the cafeteria on Day 1. Yes they risk getting too many T’s, but it’s probably worth it, because once you establish that you’re crazy and would rather get teed up than be somebodies bitch, you can’t really be bullied anymore.

If I had wanted to insult others named Edwards, I would have come in a distant second to Sir Nerdlington as he wrote this tripe and shares the name, which is far andaway than anything I could have come up with on my best day.

D. West is an enormous punk, an as of yet nobody. He has no room to act like he’s a badass because he hasn’t proven ANYTHING. Until he does, he will only be a punk.
Joe. Have you been watching the N-H-L instead of the N-B-A? This is not a hockey blog. Maybe you’re thinking of Mike Grier. You see, we’re talking about basketball. Basketball. David West is a power forward for the New Orleans Hornets. He’s the number two option on the number two team in the Western Conference and at least the fourth best team in the entire league.
On his own, he averaged 21 points 9 rebounds a game this year, when only four players averaged 20 and 10, while putting in 85% of his copious free throws on his way to his first All-Star appearance. He’s done even better in the playoffs and has been a one man wrecking crew against good Dallas and San Antonio teams.
I’m not exactly sure why you, as an angry and misguided hockey fan, would choose to spit vitriol against David West on this blog–especially as if there were an all-NBA Playoffs team, David would surely be on the first team–but you are, of course, entitled to your own opinion. No matter how wrong.
