The KG Finals Shoe = Even Pimper Than I Thought
Posted by: ticktock6 in General NBA News, Playoffs 08
So Kevin Garnett has a special Finals shoe, complete with a picture of the trophy and the NBA Finals logo on the inside. They did a closeup on TV and they’re pretty sweet looking shoes (though I personally think the home version is a little bit pimper). But how sweet are they really? You have to click for the zoom. “Huh,” I thought, having run across this picture in a game gallery. “What are all those little numbers? OK… How come it says 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 on the other side of his shoe? And why’s the 4 a different color? What’s the significance of that?”
Well, that became pretty obvious when I saw the KG Game 3 shoe… You guessed it, he has a special pair for each game. The Game 3 has the 3 highlighted in green. OK, now that’s cool. See, this is the stuff you miss when you sit far away and watch games live rather than on TV. I didn’t realize until the last game of the season, for instance, that D West’s shoes say “D West” on the back. And forget all the secret stuff that CP3’s shoes say. There’s a pair sitting out on my doormat and I could examine them for an hour and probably still miss something.
Update: Funny!
I was gonna go look in the gallery for that shot of the D West shoe, but I found something totally better, from a charity event in NOLA last week… D West in a COLOR! Yes! Seriously! (OK, I’m aware that it is statistically unlikely that David West gets along in life without any colors in his wardrobe. I just think it’s funny that we don’t see him in them, like, ever.) Speaking of this post and NBA fashion, do you picture KG having an entire closet in his house reserved for his collection of sweater vests?

Being the resident sneakerhead, I’d like to give kudos for a post about shoes!
Anyway, why the number of the shoe is highlighted is because adidas will sell that specific pair (~8 pairs per game), thus allowing some consumers to purchase the PE (Player Edition) version, while still maintaining the impossibility of acquiring PEs by conventional means. Of course, adidas is pushing the ‘Basketball is a Brotherhood’ campaign, so the shoe itself is going to be a team-shoe, meaning you’ll see people next season wear this, but not with certain touches.
Special tidbit: the sneaker community seems to absolutely LOVE CP3 PEs. That teal colour blocking is real unique, and some of his kicks are highly coveted. Just letting you guys know of the desirability of our team’s fashion. Mua ha.

What? It’s not in case he accidentally forgets what game he’s playing in??
So I guess if you’re a mad rich Celtics fan it’s a faux pas to buy the Game 3 sneaker from the game they lost…
I don’t think I’ve seen a pair of the colored CP3s out and about, except on him. And now that I think about it, I think Rob Nice might’ve had a pair on at one of the games. mW’s are all-black.

Oh, you’d be surprised. For some reason the CP model had 6 or so general release colourways (somewhat rare for a premier signature shoe). While most aren’t really MASS produced (I hear teal Jordan CP is more common in NOLA, par exemple), you can find a few if you search a lil’ bit. Check the community mail: I’ll send out some pictures from the web. Maybe one’ll peak mW’s interest, hehe.
