If mW's right (~18 mil), this may be a little hard to swallow. Granted, he IS our star and quite possibly the key to the future of the franchise, but it's a bit hard for me to swallow. LeBron James (my pick for Current Best One-on-One Player, or effectively CBOOP) is ~15 mil, and you see how poorly his TEAM ends up year after year. Yes, I think CP is worth the big bucks, but this puts him effectively in the top 10 salaries or so, simultaneously constraining funding supplemental players FOR CP. Maybe free agents will take some pay cuts to play with CP, a la San Antonio Spurs or New England Patriots.

We need to probably trade some players and sign generic-brand players in order to make some room for the bench, cause as of right now, our starters are at a very real risk of playing 35+ minutes/ again.

One thing's for certain though, I'm with all you guys in a (rather expected) sigh of relief that CP's here for awhile.

Oh, and somehow I've neglected to add throughout the last couple of posts that the 76ers have extended qualifying offers to Andre Iguodala and Louis Williams, and still are waaaAAAAAaaaayyy under the cap. They are an upcoming team, but I can't see older free agents, like Maggette, Brand, Arenas, or Davis, looking for a ring to end up there.

Hmmm....more recent reports are suggesting it might be worth more like $18 mil a year. No indication on the year by year breakdown on that and whether it escalates (usually it does). He had been making like $4-5 mil a year. The new number might make it hard to land a big free agent. But with Ely opting in for like $0.8, we should still be able to grab someone with an MLE.

Of course, that's presuming we want to stay under the luxury tax. Teams like L.A., Cleveland, Phoneix, Dallas, Boston, and sadly New York are all well over. Although others like Detroit and San Antonio have much more cap-friendly budgets.

is that after his rookie year, or is that starting the 08-09 season. 4 or 5 years. Who would be a good Non-restricted free agent I heard Posey is on the block.

And even $15 mil is much more reasonable than say the $17.8 B-Diddy just opted out of, or the $20-some mil that Kobe and Shaq are making, or Arenas is expected to get. It rewards CP without crippling the team, and allowing them to room to go after other big names.

You know, I wanted them to make a big push in free agency, even with the lack of $$ space, but this made me rethink the State of the Universe and the Grand Scheme of Things.

This is all we need. :-D
