I’ll try to keep updating as news comes in. Chris Duhon is expected to choose today between the Knicks and Bulls. The Jazz, who tried signing Maggette a few years ago are now said to be pushing hard. We can’t like him going to either Utah or San Antonio. Or anywhere in the West, really. Speaking of the West, the Lakers seem to be talking to James Posey and Brent Barry…
After making a qualifying offer to Nenad Krstic of $2.7 mil, the Nets are said to be eyeing a sign and trade. With a lack of small guys, could they be eyeing a trade for Mike James or Rasual Butler? Both make more than Krstic, but a 7-footer who likes to escape to the outside might be a nice add, if slightly dupliciative of D-West’s game. But taller. And with less skill. Hmmm.
The suspense is killing me. I want confirmed Hornets rumors. Damn it.
EDITED UPDATES: the good news? CP3 seems to have agreed to a 4-year $68 million deal. Still no other word on Hornets moves. As for the rest? Like everyone else, the Warriors are now talking to Corey Maggette. Seriously? I guess with B-Diddy gone they can give him some loot, but if he goes elsewhere, how bad will they have blown it? Especially with Brand indicating he’s probably going back to Hollywood and Arenas now saying he’s agreed to a 6-year $111 mil deal with the Wiz, taking considerable less than the max. Hmmm….why didn’t CP do that? As a rarely lucid Arenas opined, “What can I do for my family with $127 million that I can’t do with $111 million?” Interesting.
Elsewhere, Rockets (like many other teams) say James Posey may be their missing piece. The Bulls are talking to Luol Deng and Ben Gordon. Interestingly, Josh Smith visited the 76ers and left without an offer, but with the Hawks promising to match any offer, maybe that’s not a surprise. Especially as they’re talking to Josh Childress now and the Salary Cap won’t be set until Tuesday. Among the 9 or so teams talking to Monta Ellis? Knicks. Among everyone that’s talking to Maggette, Celtics; apparently he’s good friends with Doc. Here’s the funny thing. The Celtics could re-sign Posey to the full MLE, pick up a bunch of scrub free agents for a combined $4+ mil to fill out the roster, and then give Maggette about $10 mil a year before reaching the Knicks payroll. Not saying it’s going to happen. Just pointing out how fucked the Knicks are and/or how hard it is to end up 23-59. I mean you have to really want to suck.
That’s all I got for now.
Okay so everyone talks about Maggette, what about Ricky Davis as a good swingman or Stromile Swift as a backup who can play center or power forward
Are the Hornets talking to anyone? It seems like all the names I had heard are talking to other teams .. except Jarvis Hayes?
@ Michael: Ricky Davis is talented, and certainly comes cheaper than CM, but he doesn’t really play defense, is known to be lazy, and doesn’t play well with others. No thanks. Seriously, I’d rather pay $800,000 for Bowen than $3 mil for Davis. As for Swift? I like him. He’s never lived up to his potential, but has freakish athleticism. Could be a good fit, but not sure I’d want to suck up his 1-year $6 mil contract. Maybe trade him straight up for Mike James, even out the cash, see how it works, but other than that, I’d pass.
@ C-Town: from what I hear, Jeff Bower is playing his cards really tight to his vest. Either that or they’re not really doing anything. I heard the Jarvis Hayes rumor. I heard they want Posey. And while I know they’re interested in Maggette, I haven’t heard any reports about it.
And Louisiana’s own Chris Duhon just agreed in principle to a 2-year deal with the Knicks. I really hope the Hornets are making moves behind the scenes, because the good ones are all going to be gone by the 9th.
truth is hornets must pull off a major multi-deal trade to progress farther in postseason, names like juan dixon or barbosa to replace mo pete, cory magette for trades, darius miles could be talks, or sasha vujavic to back up stojakovic. all these players could get great playing time w/ a team that is need of players.
The hornets are a young team with allstars who get better every year, two allstars this season, two on the olympic team, one real MVP, and alls we really need is one or two decent backups. With the team we have now we were (except for a few poorly officiated games) which happened to give stern his playoff matchup he wanted the hornets were kicking ass and taking names all season. With a few good backups so our starters can rest and do more damage I don’t see any team that could take us in the postseason next year. So hopefully andersen will pickup his game as a valuable bench player, armstrong will see that he’ll be traded if he doesn’t develop, and if pargo and wells are still around then this will be one team to worry about in the playoffs, I mean c’mon we were second best in the west and that took an incredibly bullshit game to take us out of first place. So anyone who knows basketball knows the hornets don’t have to change much just a few little tweaks that need to be made.
AND WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN ANYONE NAMED SASHA……SERIOUSLY….CHOKE ARTIST, NO DEFENSE, NO THANK YOU
Agreed. (With the comment further up, more specifically than Sasha) At the end of the season, no one wanted to change anything. Then we sell one crap draft pick and everyone is clamoring for the Hornets to sign someone huge or else the offseason is a failure. Now if we LOSE someone, though, all right…
