Hornets Hype

Busy Monday:

By mW on July 23, 2008

A few quick notes from Monday’s Free Agent market:

  • Josh Childress: headed to the Olympiakos team in Greece for 3 years, getting about $20 mil after taxes; Hawks can only match NBA offers, not international ones.
  • Bostjan Nachbar: similarly, this ex-Net signed with Dynamo Moscow for 3-years and $14 mil.
  • Ronny Turiaf: Warriors get their man when Lakers didn’t match the 4-year $17 mil offer from GS.
  • Matt Barnes: Suns signed this ex-Warrior to a 1-year veteran minimum deal of $1.2 mil.
  • Eddie House/Tony Allen: the Celtics re-signed these backups; allegedly both received deals of 2-years for over $2 mil per.
  • Sebastian Telfair: the T-Wolves kept their PG by giving up a multiyear deal for an undisclosed amount.
  • Kurt Thomas: the Spurs lose, um, I mean “win” the KT sweepstakes, by re-signing this veteran forward.
  • Marcus Williams: not really free agency, but the Warriors traded for this Nets backup PG by giving a conditional 1st round pick.
  • Keyon Dooling: ditto here, as the Nets gave up cash and a trade exception to the Magic for this guard.
  • Brevin Knight/Jason Hart: in one last trade, Clips and Jazz exchanged backup PGs (BK to Utah, JH to L.A.).

Also to cross the newsticker, the NBA team formerly-known-as the Seattle Supersonics, will now be the “Oklahoma Thunder.”  And to their credit, they are already reporting over 16,000 season ticket requests.

  1. LOL @ your take on KThomas.

Couple of extras: Warriors sign Mo Evans, which unofficially makes K. Azubuike officially a Clipper.

And: the Hornets new jerseys- http://www.atthehive.com/2008/7/21/576216/via-img-photobucket-com-po

Kinda sad that a Magic fan found it before I even saw it, haha. Personally, I love the pinstripes, I was really sad to see the Hornets leave behind the look in the 90’s. I anticipate a lot of dislike for it though. Ah well. My only hope is that there’s a gold version of that jersey as an alternate. For all the hating ESPN did on our gold ones this year, I thought they looked pretty spiffy.

  2. Nice find atthehive. Personally not digging them (does the colour not look a tad off to you?), but that’s coming from a very picky fan who’s favourite jersey was the Orlando Magic jersey circa 2001-ish (holographic stars! Veeerry sexy). I’m telling you, Dazzle-based purple jerseys. That strikes my fancy.

Overall small little pieces here and there may help tweak some teams. On the other hand, have you noticed 5+ of the bullet points were regarding the Western Conference? LEastern Conference better step their game up; this is just getting ridiculous.

  3. I saw versions of both jerseys on Hornets Forum earlier: http://hornetsreport.com/HRForums/showthread.php?t=50325&page=9&pp=25. Not sure who posted first.

And thanks for the Mo Evans update.

In sad news, looks like we lost out on Birdman: http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_9972596.

  4. In other bad news, Bobby Brown —–> Kings.

  5. saltandcarbon says:

I’m betting Azu has a breakout season – Hedo scale.
‘f Bobby Brown cuts up ouur second unit for double figures, I’m gonna be PISSED!
And as much as I would’ve loved to see the Birdman in flight for NOLA, he’ll probably get more burn in Karl’s system. And any way to see more of Andersen on the court is alright by me. The kid made some mistakes, but you know he has a big heart. Good luck Bird.

  6. Rough week between Bird and Bobby Brown … hope the Bees still have something up their sleeves.

  7. Michael says:

I’m personally waiting for us to sign Pargo and Wells again because they both did a ton for us last season. Also people can talk about bobby brown all they want but that just means he was good against rookies and nobodies. Pargo does things offensively for us that brown couldn’t do and Pargo is very clutch(of course he has a few off moments but he’s human). And with Wells filling his role as a bench player who can add big numbers when it’s needed with those two signed I’ll truly believe the sky is the limit for next year.

SO SIGN THEM NEW ORLEANS AHHHHHH

  8. Michael says:

And it’s official, Andersen is out of the mix, this is killing me not knowing what we’ll be doing with our big men I mean seriously I just want to hear something positive in that regards. Will we trade wells for another powerforward/center and put posey on the 2 but wright at the 3(where he needs to be…..didn’t mean to rhyme) and then Armstrong at the center with possibly Ely or said new player at power forward, or maybe we’ll sign a rookie and hope he puts up better production than Armstrong/Ely have been. I just don’t think we’ll be keeping both of them though, but Scott seems to have more love for Armstrong than E……oh well at least I know that Andersen is no longer in the picture….and I kinda feel bad cause now I don’t want him to do good with a western conference rival but I’m sure he’s a good guy
