Dang, and I was so going for the Jim Rome comparison myself. But I agree, Sarah and Mike did a great job. I always try to bring on people who are more knowledgeable of their team than I am to provide some insight and break things down better than I can and they both definitely came through. BTW, we’ll have a Q&A up at http://projectspurs.com with Jim Eichenhofer of Hornets.com in a few minutes and tonight we’ll be liveblogging the game and we’d like nothing more than for there to be a bunch of Hornets fans taking it over. Again it’ll be at http://projectspurs.com and we’ll get started about 15 mins. prior to the game. I just listened to that again, and I think my favorite part is when I say, “I started this blog…” and I’ve clearly been eating while he was asking the question.

Sac is my last game before sad 2-game Christmas break. (In fact I don’t even think my parents get ESPN for the Xmas game.) Sad faces!!

@TT Wow you sound like my cousin from Buffalo. @Mw you sound too nice to be Jim Rome. Yall mentioned that this is a Football Town. I have suffered my whole life with the saints and was elated when we got a NBA team. It takes a lot to be Saints fan.

About the Spurs Showdown we just need low post defense and offense and take out Manu somehow. I feel pretty confident about the the Antiono trade nothing can be worse the Mike James he just held the ball too long and we need someone to pass the ball better and to hold out till the shot clock winds down. I think daniels can do that. I’m really impressed with JPose 20 and 10 game with the raptors and look foward to his impact. Last years playoff game 7 lost was depressing and hope with the tweaked roster we “Sting Em”

I got 100 lvl tickets to the Sacramento game. I like Brad Miller ,Sac’s Center, If he’s healthy i think he’s a good center and a Big man that shoots threes and avg. 3 assist a game would be great on our side, not to discount TC he’s a solid player or Hilton developing his Big man Identity. Brad is past his prime and I like our Bigs. I cant wait for this game!

mW, yeah. I’m actually not sure why I wrote that, because I completely agree with you about the player-coach relationship, haha. But regards to the Spurs, memory tells me I don’t see our game reflective of them. Our team composition is not that similar to the Spurs IMO, just because with our team, it starts at CP, and ends with another player. The Spurs do have players (mostly bench) that can only do one thing, but as a whole they are more versatile and their ball movement is much better than ours. Yes, CP IS our hub and he finds people, but we don’t know how to exploit mismatches like the Spurs do. Our mismatches are dependent on the Crescent City Connection. The Spurs are kicking it off to the wing and swinging the ball.

At least with last year, we were consistent statistically, but I noticed a trend where we would goof for a half, blow out third, then maintain a lead at the end. It was blow out wins or blow out losses (there goes that ‘blow out’ term again!), while the Spurs are more methodical, plodding almost. Like I’ve always said, we are a finesse jump shooting team. Yes, we are extremely efficient, as are the Spurs, but we don’t/can’t go down low when our shot isn’t dropping: problematic as noted last year against the Spurs. I always envisioned this as the Spurs’ bread-and-butter, their ability to get to the line.

Oh, and don’t be a Jim Rome. Please.

@ Mark: I definitely think we resemble the Spurs in a lot of ways when we’re at our best. We can play in the half-court, we can run, we can defend, (we didn’t foul a lot last year), and we don’t turnover the ball. Basically, we just play well. We force mistakes. Then you look up and that oh so close game is suddenly a double-digit lead. I mean, sure, the Spurs have taken that model further than we have, but you can see the resemblance.

@ two_tone: I don’t see them doubling Tim unless he kills us, and even then probably not unless the shooters are missing everything. Byron likes to let some stars do their thing and shut down the rest of the team. Then again, I’ve seen him game a star and dare the rest of the team to beat you. So now I confused myself. I guess we’ll see. But I think we’ll start out with single coverage on Tim.

@ attthehive: Jim Rome. Awesome. That’s funny.

@ Mark again: I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with you again (I know, so un-Rome-ish!), but I think a team is definitely not only as good as their players. Lakers had Kobe and Shaq but no rings until they got Phil Jackson. Detroit had a lot of good teams post-MJ era, but never won the rings until they got Larry Brown. I’ve said many times here and elsewhere, I believe in the maxim that players win games and coaches win championships.
