I submit for your consideration the following conversation that took place during the first half of the Hornets/Rockets game:
Ticktock6: Hey, I wonder if T-Mac made the trip. Probably not. After all, this is New Orleans. He might get shot.
mW: Yeah, I know, man. All those shootings that go on at the W.
Ticktock6: It’s a dangerous place. That W is like the wild, wild West.
I know what you’re thinking. It’s been over a year since Tracy McGrady made those comments about being scared to go to the All Star Game in New Orleans (the best part about that article, by the way, is how Rafer Alston chimes in and agrees with him, saying, “I’m scared right now, only because of the situation down there now. Right now, it’s pretty unsafe,” like anyone ever asked Rafer Alston to go to an All Star Game. Yeah you right, Skip. It’s like motherf***in Baghdad down here, BE AFRAID!). The rest of the world has pretty much forgotten it. But McGrady’s still on our $#*tlist. When am I gonna let it go? Oh come on, you know the answer is, like, never.
Especially not after this morning’s news that Rockets forward Carl Landry was shot in the leg late last night following Rockets @ Hornets. Oh, T-Mac, it was so wise and prescient of you to be worried about getting shot in New Orleans. You are clearly a prophet for our age….. BUT WAIT! Landry was actually shot when he stopped at a fast food restaurant at around 4 AM, after the Rockets’ flight back from New Orleans landed in Houston sometime after midnight last night.
OK, no seriously, it’s not funny. Someone being shot is never funny. And I am glad Carl Landry is all right. But…
I’m not saying… I’m just saying.
HornetsHype: Being Huge Assholes in the Name of New Orleans Patriotism Since 2008
Smug
Not going to lie, I thought of the exact same thing when I saw the Landry story..
T-mac’s broken ass should have been proud to be part of the NOLA all star game 08… I know his all star days are waaaaay numbered.. The man reminds me of a great fighter but with a glass jaw.. Orlando saw his best years. He’s on a mad decline and whats this he never made it out of the first round of the playoffs? Hate on a city all you want T-Broke we know you’re a hack.. Sorry, just don’t dis a city we love.
I gotta say with you 110% on this one. I will always hate on McGrady for his comments about New Orleans. I know he has done some other good humanitarian things beyond the NBA Cares campaign, but I can’t help it, he sux! The idea McGrady was almost selected an All-Star this year was too pitiful.
The truly bad thing is that McGrady quit playing this year. Now the Spaceships are playing less selfishly as no one has to defer to another stupid round of brickage from a less than healthy aging ballhog, like McGrady, and their defense is better with him gone, too.
I do wish we had a Carl Landry on the Hornets. The guy is a Rodman-esque rebounder, with deceptively good offensive skills because he was the man at at Purdue. The Spaceships have an undersized front line when Yao is out, but they fight for boards and hustle with energy. Landry has the same upside as Paul Millsaps of Utah. Landry is a good player, and I’m glad he wasn’t seriously hurt.
Sorry, Houston. Yet again the joke that you stink as a place to live is never in doubt. It’s a city that deserves McGrady….
Okay so I hadn’t looked on there in awhile and um…okay so as a long time Hornets fan I just gotta say how can you shit list the mascot, if you must you can shit list the person in the costume but shouldn’t do that to the name. I’m sure the one who almost ripped your head off was the new guy who replaced the real “Hugo”. Also how could a certain bleeping piece of bleep not be in there……a certain player who stole our MVP award I just don’t get it, he’ll be in my shit list for the rest of my life, tell me they chose him over a single game difference, how stupid(especially considering we split the season series).
Oh the irony.
Off-topic, but I was just wondering if you’re going to post your hot nba ballers bracket here. I’m pretty sure it would be awesome.
I am going to post it– starting tonight or tomorrow AM! It’s going to be a bunch of rounds. With collages. Of hotness. Anyhow, I’ll Twitter when it’s up.
Listen McGrady saying something dumb off the cuff. I can forgive. CP not getting the MVP in lieu of an equally deserving Kobe? No sweat. I try not to hold petty grudges But that the Boston Arena scarring me for life (literally) or that fucking Hugo rocketing a projectile at my head? Don’t count on it. Shit list, baby.
A Hornet site ran by a Laker fan…….no sense and what should be expected from someone who has been a fan for…..two maybe three years……sad state of affairs, and no kobe wasn’t equally deserving as his numbers were some of the lowest he has had and his team only did better when somehow they got an allstar for nothing. The lebron james hate you project is clearly because his numbers far out do those of that raping, teammate bashing, embarrassment to the sport bryant. Me personally I believe that basketball players have a certain responsibility and therefore believe that their actions off the court show the kind of people they truly are, and again there are a lot of players who can score a lot of points, but how many have the backup of a certain los angeles star, not many. As a fan of the game for a long time I can clearly say bryant has lost as many games for his team that he won but those are never in the highlight reel. However lebron james who is close to averaging a triple double and if the game was played the way it was in the sixties then he’d surely be recording roughly the same numbers as the big O. That is something impressive but for the same reason kevin garnett wasn’t in the race last year bryant should have been out as well, the team is good, not just the player. So you can stuff that equally deserving crap cause that is truly a biased bryant loving opinion. Oh and personally speaking for people thinking it’s amazing he scored 81 points in a game, to me that will always be a testament to how he is a ballhog, because in this day and age with all the talent out there in the league to take that many shots it’s like pissing on the sport of basketball. That of course is my opinion I could be wrong…..
You’re entitled to your opinion, but this post isn’t really about Kobe. So I don’t see why we have to bash him just out of reflex, even though I don’t like him either. LeBron is on the list because his commercial irritates the crap out of me. Kobe hadn’t done anything in particular for awhile that annoyed me… so I took him off. It is what it is. I feel personally slighted by something McGrady did, and that’s why he’s on the list permanently. I’ll leave it to CP whether he feels professionally slighted by Kobe.
@ Michael. Freedom of speech, baby. Though it’s unclear to me why you’re so angry. Almost every BBall analyst will tell you Kobe’s been the best player in the League for years. Most valuable? Now that’s alwas a debate. As for he legal issues? Innocent until proven guilty. End of story. Lebron can explode to the rim in dunk. Color me unimpressed. The me a ring when he earns something by handed to him by the media or his marketing people or the Stern Machine.
And I’ve been here in Nola as long as he Bees and been watching them ever since, so that’s my loyalty. Am I also a Laker fan? Sure. I’m a basketball fan. I’m a Magic and Hawks fan, too. So what. My mission, along with TT6, is hyping the Hornets. Sorry you didn’t get that that was the point of the post.
Innocent until proven guilty, well I’d say paying off the girl and his wife is pretty guilty. And frankly anyone who says kobe has been the best player in the league for years has not been watching basketball, because stat wise, he hasn’t been, and win wise he hasn’t been. He only won a championship when shaq was there and they could’ve done it without him then. So I don’t care honestly about someone who without a huge star will never get a championship, and pau gasol fortunately is not huge enough. It was funny watching Paul Pierce contain him and make him look like a high school player in the playoffs though. See my main gripe was that a fan should be a fan, you should love your team not all teams, and when you bash another player who is simply better than that one guy whose ass your lips are stuck to just let it go. I get it you love the lakers, it makes life easier for a fan when he spreads the love that way you get less disappointed when a team loses. It’s kinda sad when people are like that I just think it’s dumb to praise the Hornets with a star player that makes others better, shows professionalism at all times, and frankly continues to defy reason to a player who bitches when he loses, who insults his teammates, who in all ways has proven to be a total piece of crap for a human being. He didn’t make the lakers better, he made them the same 50% team as they were, the money from the city of L.A. made the lakers better, he just happens to score the most, that’s it. People don’t get how players reactions are passed down into the real world, so enjoy your freedom of speech but understand there are those out there who served their country and actually earned theirs. So I’d say hopefully you’d go to a laker website and kiss his ass there but as most people who act tough online you’d probably decline. I just honestly came her to discuss my team and like most fans I want to focus……on the team, not all teams, the point of coming here is to avoid the kobe obsessed a-holes on nba.com.
Sigh. For every asshole obsessed with loving Kobe, there is an asshole obsessed with hating him. Frankly, I find it sad when people are such “fans” that they refuse to be objective, or think clearly. Kobe is awesome. Wade is awesome. Duncan is awesome. Being a Hornets fans doesn’t change those facts. Further, anyone who thinks Kobe looked like a “high school player” in last year’s playoffs is a little too in love with hyperbole.
As to the legal woes of NBA players? Anyone who understands either the law or economics, knows there are a plethora of reasons a person would pay off another party, even if they have done absolutely nothing wrong. But this isn’t a legal or economic blog, so go consult a lawyer if you want to know more. The irony about Michael’s comments above is that when I referenced “Freedom of Speech” in my last comment, I was talking about Michael’s right to spit vitriol, but he assumed I meant my own soapbox. So be it.
So people, please, don’t just buy the Rush Limbaugh-type of talk-radio show arguments and assume that whatever bullshit you hear is true. That goes for what you read here, too. Think for yourselves. TT6 and I are just as biased as any other media lens, only we don’t hide behind the objective label. We love the Hornets. We started this site to Hype them. If you don’t like how we do it, well kiss my ass.
