Hornets Hype

In a basement. In our pajamas.

I found covering just one of Chauncey's eyes to be effective

Y'all. I think it bugs Chaunce when you cover one of its eyes. Not both. Just one. I made him miss 2 free throws that way.

The season teeters on the edge of a game.

The season hangs on questions– how banged up is Chris Paul? James Posey? Tyson Chandler? What will happen if Peja and DWest finally get rolling? Can our rims give us some anti-Nugget lucky love? Is this team capable of toughing it out for one more game? How big is the heart inside our little hero?

I just realized, if they lose, this might be the last time we see these guys (for some of them, the last time in stripes). And if that’s the way it’s going to be, I’ll say goodnight to my seat in the back row. I’ll miss you, seat. And I’ll be yelling loudly anyway. Because this team, despite the ups and downs of this season, has given this city enough to deserve that, I think. We’re like the Chris Paul of cities– the little scrappy one. And I’ll stay till the last second ticks off the clock. And I’ll have fun– and really, most of the time, win or lose, I do– because if it’s not fun, I don’t know what the hell else it’s all for.

But if that’s not the way it’s going to happen, I’ll be ready. Let’s go. Let’s do this.

Let’s take the roof off that place. Defend New Orleans!!

    They quit…..

I never expected them to quit….

  2. Life sucks… and then you die.

Yeah, wow. I guess Byron Scott was right all along, not to play the bench? Really I’m more embarrassed about that. Jesus Christ. Free Mo Pete and JuJu? No. Lock them all away in a closet never to be seen again is more like it. It didn’t help that that was the worst game I’ve ever seen CP play. Ever.

  3. So….the voodoo doll did NOT work tonight. That said, it doesn’t matter if we lost by 50 or 5 tonight. We’re down 3-1. Win the next three and we play the next team.

  4. I don’t think the team should have Voodoo dolls with their logo and name all over it. Shouldn’t it have had the opposing teams name and logo on it?

  5. The Hornets flat out gave up tonight. Didn’t look like they felt like playing from the start. I was looking at our players as if to say “who are these guys?”

  6. I’m not sure you can say they didn’t play from the start. They did. They just got outplayed. Let’s hope they take it to heart and get vengeance.

  7. I didn’t think so. I’ve seen us play WORSE and be behind by less. I thought they could weather the storm until Denver cooled off. But they never took advantage of that stretch of free throws/calls. And Denver never cooled off.

Aaaaand then the bench totally gave up. I’ll definitely say that. You thought, how could it be worse? Congratulations, guys, for making it worse. And making us look like idiots for telling Byron to play you.

  8. When did it look like they felt like playing? When the score was 2-2? that was the only time the game was close. Then after that….. On the Nuggets second possession Kenyon damn near tea bagged Tyson with that dunk and the team pretty much folded right after that. I’ve seen the Hornets play bad but this was inexplicable.

  9. I think we’re done…and i’m usually the optimistic one..Denver will play Dallas. Even down by 22 at halftime, i still thought that we could do something in the third quarter. but it got *so* much worse after that.
It hurts. It really does. I still love the Hornets but this doesn’t seem like the same team from last year…either that or every other team got really good. How did we regress so much?

  10. @ Kal.. I agree. It just doesn’t seem like the same team from last year. Who knows what we could’ve been if we didn’t have all the injuries this season but it’s looking like there’s more to it than the injuries. Maybe not though. Maybe they’re all so banged up they just can’t get it going. All the Nuggets did was bring in Chauncey and got rid of Camby. They didn’t change their entire roster and look at what they’ve done this season. I’m pretty sure the Jazz didn’t expect to be an 8th seed and a 1st round exit when the season began but it happened. I’m actually ready for our guys to get some rest now. CP has carried this team for most of the season and now he’s worn. I’m glad there’s no Team USA stuff to bother with this summer.

  11. I wonder which player picked at #21 will be able to contribute for us next season. Julian should be developed a bit more, CP will be CP, and I don’t know what the heck Hilton will be like because each season when I think he’ll have taken a step forward, he really doesn’t. I named those guys because they are the youngest guys on our roster.

Wow, that was a horrible loss. I was still hopeful at the half when we got their entire team into foul trouble. Just keep drawing the fouls and force the Nugs to bring in their bench and beat THEM. Didnt happen. I dont see this team surviving the offseason in any noticeable fashion even if we do the same thing to the Nugs next game. Just too violent loss.

  13. @Mo: I agree with everyone else– I still thought at the half they could come out, and then what did they do? Immediately gave up a huge run. And I turned to mW and said, “When you give up a run out of every single break, every single halftime, every timeout all year, and it’s a pattern, that is a coaching issue.” It just has to be.

What you said about Denver only making one move, I said over on Hornets247. The exact same thing.

Strangely enough, the other team with the 58 point playoff loss, the one whose record we tied, won the next game. Does that mean I think the Hornets will? Of course not. It’s just funny to point out.

I think Im now looking forward to the 2011 playoffs….. :(

  15. @ticktock6 …. I forgot to mention the Nuggets also got rid of Iverson which was probably addition by subtraction. I actually thought they would do better in the 2nd half too but like you said, they immediately gave up a huge run. Almost like they didn’t even want to come out of the locker room. They just looked strange. Just didn’t look right at all. We’ve seen them come out and go on their own runs in the 3rd but that was nowhere to be found last night.
