Hornets Hype

grassroots growing strong

I get it. Teams alleged tanked ends of seasons to get the #1 pick.  They made a lottery to counter.  Yeah, that’s really stopped teams.  Remember the term “tankapalooza” from the last few years?  Riley scouting college games instead of coaching?  Right.  No impact whatsoever.  Worst idea ever.  Beyond that, since 1990, only 4 teams with the League’s worst record have won the lottery, and teams with the second worst record have won it just 2 times.  So who’s really being rewarded?  Teams that don’t deserve it.  It’s total bullshit.

The Lottery is a joke and an embarrassment to the League.  I think the only reason that they keep it in place is so Stern can laugh at the conspiracy rumors.  Which, speaking of, may be more than rumors.   Ewing anyone?  Duncan?  Rose?  Right.

So, anyone know who’s been given the #1 pick this year?  My money’s on either OKC or Memphis.  Stern wants the former to succeed and the latter’s already been screwed by the lottery enough that even Stern might feel bad.  But that’s just me.

Discuss.

  1. I guarantee the Knicks will get a higher pick than the #8 pick they’re numerically supposed to have.

I’m rooting for the Clips! Poor Clips. They’re even in LA and the league could care less about them.

  2. Lottery is bullshit.. I think its stupid… suposedly its for teams not to intentionaly have a losing season so they can get a high draft pick… what the fuck ever how many coaches got fired this past season alone wining is everything

Hold on a second. The point you are trying to make that the lottery stinks because the worst team hardly ever gets the No. 1 pick is EXACTLY why they have the lottery – so you can’t be guaranteed the top pick by tanking and having the worst record. That’s the whole point of it, isn’t it? No team is going to think it’s logical to lose on purpose at the end of the regular season when it only might improve their lottery chances from say, 21 percent to 25 percent.

Also so much for the prediction that the Knicks would move up from their spot. Where’s my money-back guarantee? lol. So much also for everyone else’s conspiracy that OKC would get hometown boy Blake Griffin. To me the most ridiculous part of the conspiracy theories is that people come up with one for EVERY team in the lottery! So no matter who wins the lottery, there is a (fill-in-the-blank) conspiracy you can apply.
If Sacramento won the lottery, you could say the NBA is worried about them relocating to Las Vegas so the NBA made sure the Kings got the first pick. If Washington won it, you say well D.C. is a key market and this will get them an injection of talent the Wizards need to build excitement…. Clippers won because L.A. is the 2nd-biggest city in America and need a boost with the Lakers doing so well…. Memphis is having problems getting support so league wanted the Grizzlies to get Griffin to help their attendance…. The Knicks have been stinking for a long time so now that they have Griffin it’s going to make the league office so much happier. I could go on, but I think you get the point.

  4. Nah, this was the off year, the non-rigged one the NBA throws in to put us all off their trail…….. :-P

  5. @ HornetsPoet: the worst team should get the worst pick. It works out just fine in every other sport. Every team should be presumed to be playing to win. If they actually “tank” they do so at the risk of their fanbase. I think the League factoring in that is crazy.
