Hornets fire Byron Scott after giving up 75 points in the first half at Phoenix last night. Will be formally announcing at it 1 PM. More later, as the news comes in.
Feel free to leave a brief message expressing your complete lack of surprise in the comments.

Not impressed
Coach Bower! Coach Bower!
eh?
Never thought Tim Floyd would be allowed near an NBA team again.
Wow. I am surprised. Let’s hope Bower/Floyd can get these kids rolling…
The problem maybe isn’t about the coach but about the players and the lack of depth and the lack of upgrade that was done in the off-season. I don’t know why Hornets spent so much money on aging veterans when they clearly cannot play (ex: Posey, MoPete, even Peja is past his prime).
We need major trade– that is what we need…some good players to surround CP3. I dunno about specific contracts but we better find some scorers and some players that can create their own shot and be beneficial to CP3′s feeds inside.
What has Bower coached before? bad idea, me feels…but we’ll see. :s
But when they got those guys they were playing just fine weren’t they? Posey was a fine 6th man before he got here. Peja was still a great shooter and Mo Pete wasn’t nearly as bad as he is now. It’s like when players get over here they lose anything they’ve ever had. Probably due to Scott’s boot camp training camps and practices. I understand needing veterans on your team but we had just a bit too many at one time. You need youth sprinkled in there.
Just got email confirmation that TT6 and I will be at “Chalk Talk” with Gil McGregor before Friday’s game. I guess we know what our questions will center around…
Actually I am sort of surprised. I didn’t expect it so soon.
Here’s the question, are they considering Floyd as a permanent coach, with Bower to introduce him to the team on a temporary basis? Or is Bower looking NOW for another coach, such as Sam Mitchell or Jeff Van Gundy?
Any other suggestions for a long-term replacement? Or, questions you want TT6 and I to ask Gil?
Tim Floyd?? That dood didn’t to shit with Baron Davis and the squad of ole… the emotional crazy man- but maby thats what we need a little change from Byrons stoic nature….. i’m for Avery Johnson.. but he has just about the same track record as Byron though.. ummm what would really be cool would be to get Thibadeaux(offensive genuis) from the Celtics… I think he’s going to be the next Phil Jackson/ Greg Poppavich.. but that is a BOLD statement-
ticktock6, I saw on your twitter you asked why did we fire Floyd for in the first place. I think that was a Baron being our franchise player move. Dude didn’t respect Floyd not in the least bit. Didn’t respect Byron either but instead of getting rid of Byron, they let his butt go. Frankly I’m surprised Floyd is even coming back after the way they let him go after taking the team to the playoffs.
I’m okay with Floyd for now. Agreed taht Thibadeaux could be great; or, he might just be another guy who is a genius, but better as an assistant (a la Tex Winter).
As for Avery Johnson, he was way too controlling with Devin Harris in Dallas. I can’t figure him running set plays every time down the floor for Chris would work. We need some set plays, better ball movement, but a little but of Chris Paul chaos is good for the soul.
I’m gonna be in the Hive. I don’t feel it’s all doom and gloom.
Wow, you tweeted my comment. I feel special.
I did. I hope you don’t mind. I was reading some comments on all the various blogs and LOLing at some of them.
One would hope Bower of all people sticks with the plan of playing the young ‘uns. Initially displeased with our GM taking the reigns but let’s see if he can prove us all wrong.
That said, LSUhornet, have you a Twitter account? Pretty habit forming yes, but hey I get by.
Dude and Dudette: seriously. Mention AI. I really think that idea has serious merit and needs to be talked about more.
No twitter for me. I waste enough time on the internet on NBA-related things to give myself a new addiction. Ticktock, feel free to copy my comments any time, in the rare occasion I come up with something mildly amusing.
I don’t know if Gil will answer any questions truthfully or if he’ll tow the company line. Remember they were trying to justify the Chandler to OKC deal as a good basketball move. Have a feeling he’ll hate the AI idea. mW, I like that question. That’s the one I’m wondering most at this point. I don’t know if Bower has coaching aspirations or agreed to this to save his butt.
The Chandler move was both a basketball move and a financial move imo. Bobcats fans are asking right now about Chandler’s health because he’s still not healthy and haven’t been giving them much. Yes, there has been complaints already about him. If you can get rid of a player that can’t help you on the court (basketball move) and yet you’re still having to pay him millions of dollars (financial move) , then you do it.
@stormsurge: did you miss my post? I was on Iverson from day one. I’m still counting the days until December 15, 2009.
ticktock6, reading your twitter again …. No CP hasn’t said anything on Twitter all day but it’s not like he’s on there all the time anyways. Sometimes he only posts once or twice a day. I love following his twitter but I’ve often times thought he doesn’t tweet enough. But then again the guy is probably busy most times. Also, it would be quite understandable if they’ve told him to not say anything yet on twitter at least until he’s able to give the media some quotes.
Dude, Im saying you HAVE to talk about him if you can. That is an idea that must be put out there and PUSHED until someone in the organization at least responds to it.
BD was too hollywood for Tim Floyd, but hell how bad can we acctually get with CP?
@ Mo
You’re right. No doubt he is not a heavy tweeter. But even if he had the inclination (and was indeed at another commitment, instead of hidden away angry, letting D West answer all the questions, like some people would like to believe– not me, really, btw. I think he’s smart enough to know it’s a business & if the team improves there’s a lot he’ll forgive) I would imagine it’s a topic he’s been told to stay away from.
The Answer could be the Answer for the Hornets. I’m with mW on that one. And I think Bower would give Li’l Buckets and Darren Collison some burn.
