Hornets Hype

In a basement. In our pajamas.

… after Jeff Bower inexplicably benched David West (15-5) for the entire 4th quarter of a tie game, in which the Hornets leading scorer (CP3) was out having knee surgery and the game’s leading scorer (Thornton, 22 pts) had just fallen hard and gone to the locker room, I might have done something like this first:

Shortly followed by something like this:

Would it have changed the fact that the Hornets blew a game they should’ve won to one of their closest competitors for a playoff spot, because their rookie head coach decided it would be a fun time to teach his longest tenured player and 2-time All Star a lesson? No. But it would have made me feel better.

So, I guess it’s a good thing they don’t let me go to press conferences.

I have to go. I’m, literally, an incoherent ball of rage right now. ^%$@#I*YFGSDFHJSG&$#TRA^TRDS

Bush is a fuckin pimp in that video. He doesn’t even get scared at the fact that it could be a grenade or something. He’s just like calmly dodging whatever said object hurled at him is and giving a quizzical look, then kind of cockily slouching against the podium and watching crazy shoe-thrower guy get arrested.

I think 50 Cent said it best – George W. Bush is an original gangsta.

  2. Bush *is* awesome in that vid. He just sort of casually turns around and then ducks the second one. Hahahaha.

  3. We Have no guards. WTF. Other than our rooks thats it we got nobody to back em up? This is nuts!! With CP out- Our back court is strained-

  4. At least when your coach does something stupid you can blame it on him being a rookie. When our coach (Mike Woodson) does something idiotic we literally cannot make excuses for him. I need to be able to make excuses for the man who has been here for several years and will more than likely be here for several more.

  5. @ Co Co, would your coach, if Josh Smith had scored 15 points in the first half, 0 in the 3rd, have not even played Smith in the 4th? I mean, shit, I don’t like to second guess professional coaches, who are, you know, professionals, when I’m just a fan who doesn’t have their level of understanding of the game, but it doesn’t take a whole lot of complex understanding to play the guy who’s 6-13 on the night, and not the guy who’s 1-8 at the time. Especially with CP3 and Thornton out to injury. Just crazy.

That’s why I went after the Hornets propoganda machine on their radio show guerrilla-style. Maybe the fact that 3 of the first 4 callers asked about David West will clue them in.

I don’t get the impression that Gerry V is just clueless about basketball (a la Gil), so it must simply be that he will not criticize the coaching or management of this team. If so, then what’s the point of his “analysis”? They should save the money and just have some read their press release after the game. The fact that he has the nerve to speak so condescendingly to all of the callers pisses me off to no end, especially, like in this case, they have valid points.

  7. I’ve seen Mike Woodson do some strange things, I can’t recall him sitting someone out for a whole quarter, but he is good for sitting the guy who is on fire just long enough to cool him off. Mike Woodson doesn’t really make substitutions based on the flow of the game. He tends to just stick with whatever game plan he had in mind prior to the tip off. The only thing that alters his substitution patterns is foul trouble.
He sucks at making adjustments, but immediately after the game he can point out all of the things they did wrong and what they should have done better. It makes me want to break things, because he literally acts as if he has no control over these things while the game is going on. There’s no shortage of bad coaching in the league that’s for sure. But, while it’s not so much understandable that a rookie head coach would do something stupid, it is easier to forgive him than a guy who’s been at it for 6 years. (From the outside looking in obviously) I’m sure you Hornets fans aren’t ready to forgive. I don’t blame you.

  8. To Hornets.com’s credit, they did post my criticism over at http://neworleanshornetsblog.blogspot.com/2010/02/hornetscom-postgame-thunder-103-hornets.html. At least someone in the organization is willing to tolerate criticism. Although, they did refuse to publish my comment noting their complete lack of any recognition for Bobby Phills’ passing, which still stings.
