Having one of those right now.
Paul joins LeBron’s marketing “company” (oh fine, I may have been, um, editorializing a bit there with the quotes)
Don’t make the mistake of underestimating this: it’s epically bad for New Orleans. This is the beginning of a dark spiral of bullshit, betrayal, hype, empty drama, diva behavior, leaks, “anonymous sources in Chris Paul’s camp”, and rumors that leads nowhere good. I’m not trying to be Cassandra here, but… start preparing yourselves.
More later, I guess. I’m too disappointed right now.

Horrified
oh no.
Crossing fingers.
That’s all we can do, really.
Maybe it was part of the deal to a sign and trade of Peja and Wright for Lebron?
I hope you are wrong, but I don’t think you are. These guys need to look to Kevin Durant to learn a little class. I’ll be buying the KD “brand” long before I touch anything branded by LBJ.
This off season is making me nauseous.
I am also truely disappointed. LBJ and CP3 are closer than we thought and after all what has happened in this free agency that is not a good sign.
I love KD’s approach. Damn I would love to be Thunder fan. Though, that probably wont happen.
This may or may not have anything to do with this particular post, but I thought I’d share anyway, given what transpired over the past couple days. This is one specific example of what Wikapedia calls collusion,
“The sharing of potential contract terms by NBA free agents in an effort to help a targeted franchise circumvent the salary cap.”
Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that what just happened this week? Thought I’d share.
Is it weird that I’m already preparing for when CP3 tells us he’s gone?
Fortunately the Hornets wouldn’t be dumb enough to let him go for absoltuely nothing.
Yeah, in all the rumors and nonsense, the one thing that was crucial to me was the idea that CP is not like LeBron. But he’s thrown himself in with people who just pushed their guy out of a franchise that fell over backwards to please a player, mortgaged their future, gave him his way. And then still got treated like crap. It just leaves me suspecting there is nothing the Hornets can do. These are people who just left a team that had the most wins in the NBA 2 years running.
We can’t compete with that. If Chris Paul is no longer who we thought he was, well, that was the last card we held. And now it’s gone.
I don’t understand why CP would want to be involved with this group that orchestrated such a ridiculous media circus, one that has actually hurt Lebron’s image. It seems extra strange when you consider that CP’s image thus far in his career has been an incredibly positive one and he seems to be viewed by most as one of the league’s “nice guys” – off the court that is.
Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean CP isn’t who we thought he was. We don’t know his thoughts and motivations, and I’m not going to jump to conclusions.
I’m with Caleb.
Yeah, let’s not jump to conclusions. Chris Paul is the greatest thing to happen to this team, but I’ve rooted for the Hornets since the early 90s. I don’t see myself ever quitting on them (unlike Bron Bron… zing!).
I don’t know what to really think about all of this but I while I know Chris and Lebron have been friends at least since playing in the McDonald’s All-Star game before Chris went to Wake Forest and Lebron entered the NBA (maybe even before that), I do wish CP wouldn’t have joined Lebron’s circus. Lebron is looking like a follower (followed Bosh to Miami) and now CP is looking like a Lebron follower. I think I’ll start calling anything that involves Lebron ‘LeCircus’ now. Like I said, I don’t really know what to think. I’ve always thought Chris was mature enough to have a mind of his own but right now it seems like there are an awful lot of people in his ears right now and sometimes when a person gets enough, and is pressured enough, they’ll eventually succumb. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see but I know one thing, I don’t plan to sit and wait and wonder when/if he’ll say he’s leaving. I’m going to root for my team either way.
Let me say one more thing. Quite a many Hornets fans don’t care much for David West and while he’s not the ‘star/superstar’ that Chris Paul is, we’ve never had any drama with David West. The dude for the most part is quiet and just comes out and does his job. Sure, some things we all feel he could or could have done better but for the most part David West is a very solid player. At least from this fan’s point of view. I commend him for that. He just completed his 7th season as a Hornet and we haven’t had any drama. Does he want to win ‘as bad as’ Chris Paul? Maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t. I don’t know. But I’m at least happy to not have any madness surrounding the one guy that’s basically been with the team since it re-located to New Orleans (minus the first season in NOLA).
Somebody with a twitter account needs to ask CP3 why the hell would he make a push for Monty only to go flirt with other teams.
Mo: I’m glad you made the point of DX. We all take for granted how great a low-key player like DX is. I know James said he wanted to be the first ‘billionaire athlete’ early in his career, and in order to achieve that, you have to fabricate/exemplify a marketable personality. Whereas you have athletes like DX, Nowitzki, KD (I’m not sure, but I think Roy is like that. I’m sure ticktock could tell you) who put in work night-in and night-out and are self-sufficient enough to not needy about attention.
Not enough respect for these guys who seem to have values consistent with their actions.
@Mark-Yeah, I’d say Roy is like that too.
@Mo – in what way has CP flirted with other teams?
@Caleb-Well if it’s true that during his toast at Carmelo’s wedding he asked Carmelo to join him and Amare in forming a ‘Super Team’ in NY, then to me that’s flirting with NY. No need for that even if it was a joke. People like to take stuff like that and run with it.
@ticktock6-BTW, I noticed CP is following you now on Twitter.
IF it’s true Caleb. IF. Jayson Williams tweeted about it but I see he’s since removed that tweet.
@ Mo: He is? Then I can’t talk trash anymore… Argh! Dear god WHY WOULD I EVER FEEL LIKE TALKING TRASH ABOUT CHRIS PAUL? Ugh. I can’t believe this week.
Even if he is not Baron Davis, who wants to watch a star who is half-in, half-out the door? It sucks for everyone.
I saw a change in CP3 after that 58-point loss to Denver and the subsequent summer of “bulking up”. He used to seem to be have fun playing basketball with a pleasant assassin’s attitude. Maybe fatherhood has changed him, maybe his chemistry is unbalanced, or maybe the hype machine has finally stolen his soul. Hope not….
